The collection consists chiefly of papers assembled by Charles Finn, ca. 1970-1988, relating to the establishment of the Committee for a Social Movements Collection; the acquisition of materials for the collection; and, the curatorial history of the collection. In addition, there are some papers by Janet Crayne, ca. 1988-1993, concerning efforts to catalog the collection and additional information on the history of the collection. With these is an audiocassette of a speech, ca. 1988, of Ira Glasser, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union.
